Birthstone

‘Birthstone’ custom orders are great for Mother’s Day, Valentines Day, or Birthday gift, or that special surprise gift just because.

I am sure many of you have heard of or seen your grandmothers ring that has a birthstone of each of her children: “Janet is January the garnet; Joe is the aquamarine, March; and the sapphire one is Kelly, she was my Labor Day baby.” These  are special rings and I have always loved them.

As I was looking through all my gemstones the other day, I realized they all had such different personalities.  Not only within each gemstones unique color, but also the many shapes and sizes they come in. For instance,  I have gems that are small, smooth and round to large, smooth and irregular; small faceted roundels, to large faceted nuggets; organic potato and nugget shapes a bit larger in size. It goes on and on. So what I am getting at is that you can not only represent ‘the children’ with their Birthstone, but also reflect each’ unique personality in the Birthstones’ size and shape. Example: Julie is a July baby, she is very petite with a sparkling demeanor – let’s go with faceted ruby roundels. Joe is a December baby, he is more earthy and quiet – I am thinking a medium shaped smooth turquoise nugget. Then I like to represent Mom in the piece with pearls, and there are many different types, shapes and sizes. All woven into sterling silver or 14k goldfilled.
